Liza Gertler, Psy.D.

Liza Gertler, Psy.D.Dr. Liza Gertler is a Post-Doctoral Psychology Resident at NNH and provides psychotherapy to children, adolescents and adults experiencing a myriad of challenges.
Dr. Gertler completed her doctorate in clinical psychology at the Wright Institute in Berkeley, CA. She provided individual and group psychotherapy for children, adolescents, transitional aged youth, individual adults and couples in a variety of settings. She worked in an elementary school through the Oakland Unified School District, a community mental health clinic in downtown Berkeley, and several university counseling centers in the East Bay Area. Dr. Gertler completed her APA accredited pre-doctoral internship at the University of San Francisco in the Counseling and Psychological Services Center. Prior to her graduate school career she worked in residential treatment facilities with children and with adolescents and has utilized a variety of treatment modalities to provide care and support, as a result.
Dr. Gertler’s varied experiences have led her to work with people at various stages of the lifespan using an integrative psychotherapy approach that involves meeting her patients where they are and accompanying them on the journey towards greater health, fulfillment and sense of their whole selves. She integrates interventions from various schools of thought including: psychodynamic, CBT, DBT and she uses Mindfulness often. Dr. Gertler has experience working with survivors of trauma, grief and loss, interpersonal relationship difficulties, family dynamic challenges, multicultural identity development, mood and anxiety related symptoms and accompanying diagnoses. Dr. Gertler spent much of her graduate school career pursuing research and clinical interests, related to LGBTQIQ identity development and enjoys working with this population a great deal.
When she is not working, Dr. Gertler enjoys spending time with her husband, friends and family exploring the outdoors, pursuing live music, reading engrossing novels and enjoying great food and good company.
